Throughout your entire program you will learn theory and gain knowledge while observing and working with children. This process will strengthen your understanding and ability to deliberate and interpret.
The program came to life out of the immediate need to address the shortage and quality of early childhood educators which continues to this day. Your connection to this program has the potential to enrich your life while giving you a solid grounding in Early Childhood Education. You have an opportunity to gain confidence, competency and capability to achieve ECE employment or open your own program. For related ECE groups go to: Early Learning Organizations.
Let’s teach for peace and care of the planet.
The ECE Program integrates 5 core aspects of the program:
We teach to help children know themselves and the world, learn to describe their emotions, and develop the necessary skills to share what they are learning, thinking and wondering;
Outdoor learning is one of the main features of our program. It is one that is supported by the goals of the Early Learning Framework. Understanding and respecting the places we live and work is central to the program of inquiry.
It is crucial that we learn from the First Peoples. In particular we follow the First People’s Principles of Learning. In addition, ECEs learn about the history of Indigenous Peoples in what is now known as Canada;
Based on the belief that singing, in the form of social play, enhances children’s learning and provides a context for attaining respectful, attentive, social behaviours;
Pedagogical documentation helps us all learn about the heart of education and shift to interwoven ways of understanding our lives together. We question dominant ideas in a continuing dialogue and reflective practices.
